Updating bios with a thumb drive
Restart your computer and press or hold down the appropriate key to enter your system BIOS. However it may be F2 or F8 on some laptops and desktop systems.
You can also locate your current BIOS while in Windows.
Short for "basic input and output system," the BIOS is the main program on your computer and it needs updating now and then to ensure that your machine functions correctly.
If the computer manufacturer releases an updated BIOS, you'll need to flash the BIOS on your PC to update it.
One of the most common ways to update -- or "flash" -- the BIOS is to use a standard USB flash drive. Download the update for your BIOS from the manufacturer's website.
Copy the BIOS update file on to the USB flash drive.
Do not remove the USB flash drive from your computer. Change hardware listed under Primary Boot Device to your attached USB flash drive.Your current BIOS version will be listed under “BIOS Version/Date”.Now you can download your motherboard’s latest BIOS update and update utility from the manufacturer’s website.Press Window Key R to access the “RUN” command window.Then type “msinfo32” to bring up your computer’s System Information log.
The update program will indicate when the process is complete.
